Today’s “Walk with Jesus” is focused on the calm we have access to despite the ever-increasing conflicts present in our world. On a Tuesday long ago, the conflicts of then (and undoubtedly today) were on the mind of Jesus as he sat down on the Mount of Olives and spoke to His first followers. Thankfully, they wrote it down so we can “hear” Him as He speaks to us on this Tuesday “… I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. BUT take heart! I have overcome the world (John16:33, NIV).” The “these things” are in John‘s narrative (see John 16:1-33).
For the sake of brevity, Jesus was telling His followers they would be put out of the church, they would be killed – falsely – in the name of God, that he was going to the Father, and that after he left he would be able to speak clearly to their hearts. Read it if you have time today. It is an eye-opener to the costs one may have to endure to follow Jesus. Just keeping it real ya’ll!
Ain’t that so God though? In one sentence just a couple of His words and trouble becomes peace… storms become still… doubt becomes faith… death becomes life! It never ceases to boggle my limited brain. When I try to grasp it, it alludes me. Thus, its allusion further proves my need for Him. Suffice it to say…GOD is UNLIMI†ED!
His goodness, His love, His mercy, His Amazing Grace makes me cry, it makes me shout. My spirit rejoices, unable to contain a hint of a thought of His Infinite Being! I am fully convinced not all of our brothers and sisters in faith are fully awake yet. But I have no fear they will get woke - just as He is awakening us!
Though the conflicts persist, both inside & outside the body of Christ worldwide (seemingly mirroring the very conflicts I face within myself sometimes) when I return to Jesus’ words, His peace comes – always! My fears release in His love for me and all of humanity.
Well, usually the peace is preceded by tears, a shout or two, possibly a run down my hallway with the cats looking at me like a crazy man, but I digress… ALWAYS His calm comes to comfort my conflicts – both internal and external. Jesus is our Prince of Peace AND our soon coming King!
The conflicts we face, the ones in ourselves, the one’s presenting in the body of Christ worldwide, they will only increase, THIS Jesus makes abundantly clear in John's narrative to us this Holy Tuesday. But the finale, for me the best part, is the “I have overcome.” Jesus, alone, has overcome!
Jesus has made the way ya’ll. This should calm our spirits no matter the conflicts we face. The Father and the Son have all things, fully, under control as the Holy Spirit whispers to us as only He can! Actually, they always have had all under control. They, unlike me, are never caught by surprise with conflicts but are, and always will be, the source of calm.
This Holy Tuesday 2019, as we “walk with Jesus while carrying our individual crosses” is no different than that Tuesday of long ago on the Mount of Olives. As I consider the conflicts in and out of the Body of Christ, I perceive my spirit softly whispering, “We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those He calls according to His purpose” (paraphrase & emphasis added, Romans 8:28).
Reader, ALL things means ALL things. The good things, the bad things, the confounding things, the pleasant and the unpleasant – everything! There is no thing made, seen, or unseen, that God does not have complete dominion over and full right to use to work out His purpose for us and in us, the ones He is calling, ever beckoning, to Himself to believe.
Obviously, this includes increasing conflicts. I have no idea how He does it and neither does anyone else! But what I do know, is God is not done, He is ever-working, and He has a great plan for those who love Him and seek Him with all of their being!
I apologize for my wordiness but I sure hope my intended message is clear. No matter the conflicts, however they may present in your journey today, this Holy Tuesday 2019, remember God is in control and He is working it all out for our good. Believe it!
God paid the highest price possible for ALL of us and all humanity! We will have more to cover on that in the coming days as we continue to “walk with Jesus” here at UNLIMITED-Madison.org and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/UnlimitedMinistriesAL/
Come join us this Easter Sunday as we celebrate a risen and living Savior!
Remember, no matter the conflicts - YOU are lavishly loved!
Now, let us go into the world and shine as only we can.
